It's Not About What You Feel; It's About What You Do With It!
The point is that feelings are just raw material.
Feelings can be tricky little gremlins, can't they?
One minute, you're skipping through life, whistling a happy tune, and the next, you're curled up in a ball, wondering why the world has personally victimised you.
It's like your emotions are playing a never-ending game of whack-a-mole, popping up randomly to throw you off your game. But here's the thing: it's about something other than what you feel. It's about what you do with it.
I know it's tempting to wallow in your feelings like a pig in mud. After all, there's a certain satisfaction in leaning into a good sulk or indulging in a full-blown pity party. But at the end of the day, wallowing doesn't accomplish much except give you a severe case of pruning fingers from all that soaking in your misery.
So what do people do when their feelings run like a toddler hopped up on sugar? Well, first things first, acknowledge them. Give your feelings a little nod, like greeting an acquaintance on the street. "Oh, hello there, anxiety. I see you've decided to join me today." But don't invite them in for tea and crumpets; that's just asking for trouble.
Instead, take a deep breath and ask yourself, "What can I DO with these feelings?" Can you channel your anger into an amazing workout session? Can you turn your sadness into a beautiful piece of art or a heartfelt blog post? Can you use your fear as fuel to finally tackle that thing you've been putting off for ages?
The point is that feelings are just raw material. It's up to you to mould them into something useful, like a sculptor with a lump of clay. And sure, it might not be easy. It might take some trial and error, deep breaths, and a lot of patience. But the alternative is letting your feelings run the show, and trust me, they make terrible directors.
So the next time you find yourself in the throes of an emotional typhoon, remember—it's not about how you feel. It's about what you DO with it. Will you let your feelings sweep you away like a leaf in the wind, or will you grab hold of the reins and steer them in your chosen direction? The choice is yours, my friend.
And hey, if all else fails, there's always wine and chocolate. But that's a different essay entirely.
